Grade Corrections

To the Students of Pentateuchal Studies (1st Sem, DWS),

I recently discovered several errors in the grades submitted last November. The mistakes were due to a typological confusion and have already been corrected and sent to the secretariat of DWS. Note that only six students were affected by this, namely: Ngoc, Ormita, Ortalla, Osip, Padama and Pascua. My apologies to these concerned students.

Pentateuch Students (DWS and CTS)

Due to the absence of internet connection in our seminary for more than a week, I am not readily able to check my e-accounts (facebook, emails, etc.). And so please simply be guided for the meantime with the announcements I make after each lecture and/or those coming from the Secretariat (for the T2 students) or Bing (for the CTS students).

Furthermore and in line with this, I am still not able to present the list of all T2 students who has already submitted their chapter summaries. I will post the list as soon as I can access my accounts.

CTS Pentateuch: 21 August 2010

For the CTS Students on the Pentateuch,

It's lecture as usual this Saturday afternoon. The topic will be Genesis 12-50, so-called 'Patriarchal History'. As your personal preparation for the class, instead of reference books and exegetical manuals, I would simply recommend reading these chapters and encountering first hand the narratives on Abraham, Isaac, Jacob and his sons. That's 39 chapters in all, something to fill up your Friday night :)

Pentateuchal Studies: 26 July 2010

For students attending the course on Pentateuchal Studies,

As was announced last lecture, there will be a quiz that will take place during the 2nd half of our lecture this Monday (26 July 2010) and will cover all the topics that we have discussed so far in the Introduction, including Biblical Historiography and Timeline. In other words, everything that came before the chapter on Gen 1-11 can be a legitimate question.

The first part of the lecture will be dedicated to the 2nd Story of Creation (Gen 2:4ff) and the Sin and Fall of Man (Gen 3).

CTS: Topical Guide for 10 July 2010

Main Topic: Gen 1-11

First among the logical division of the Pentateuch, the so-called Primeval History narrates the beginning of the Cosmos in general, Man and Sin in particular. Focus will be directed to the literary characteristics of these chapters since they offer the best route in understanding the first division of the Pentateuch.

Specific Topics:

A. Gen 1-11 as ‘myth’;

B. Creation Narratives in Gen 1-2;

C. The Sin and Fall of Man in Gen 3;

D. Humanity from Adam to Abram: Gen 4-11.

Note: Any of the major biblical commentaries on Gen 1-11 can serve as supplementary bibliography to this chapter (e.g. NIB, JBC, Anchor Bible Series)

Introduction to Reading the Pentateuch

I recently found an online version in Google Books of Jean Louise Ska's Introduction to Reading the Pentateuch. I don't exactly know the copyright issues on using and/or posting of online books, but for sure this could be a great help as a source for those who do not have this book in their libraries. Please click on this link for the site.
